Easter is almost here!  What a great time to share a delicious dessert or snack recipe with you.

So, my little budding chef, today I thought you might like to bake a giant Easter egg shaped cookie.  I am sure everyone in your family will love it.

Time to go put your apron on!

INGREDIENTS

PREPARATION

Preheat the oven to 350F degrees.

In a big bowl, mix all the ingredients together (except the mini eggs).

STEP 1

Add the melted butter and the egg.

Mix well.

STEP 2

Cover a cooking or baking tray with parchment paper.

Put your batter in the middle of the tray.

With your hands, flatten out the batter to make the form of an egg (approximately 23 cm in diameter).

STEP 3

Decorate your egg with your mini Easter eggs (be creative!).

Cook in the over for approximately 15 minutes.

Let the cookie cool on the tray.

YUMMM!!

Doesn’t this Easter egg cookie look delicious?

I can’t wait to have a piece of mine with my family tonight.

Enjoy!

I hope you had fun making this activity with me!

Have you heard about capillarity?  It is a fascinating phenomenon where sap circulates through the trees, and then maple water drips into your bucket !!!

Here is a little experiment that will help you better understand this phenomenon.

MATERIALS

• 2 saucers
• 1 piece of wool
• Water
• Food coloring to help you observe and understand the phenomenon.

STEP 1

• Mix a few drops of food coloring into a 1/4 cup of water.
• Add your colored water to one of the two saucers.

STEP 2

• Put the two saucers side by side.
• Wet your piece of wool and put each end in the middle of each saucer.

STEP 3

• Now watch what happens… Look!  The water is circulating around one end of the piece of wool just like when the sap circulates in the trees’ fibres.

STEP 4

Just like the maple water that drips into the bucket, your water is going to travel through the piece of wool and flow into the other saucer.

IT’S ALL DONE!

Have you ever gone to a sugar shack and tasted the maple water that is dripping into the buckets on the trees ?

I really like maple syrup, taffy on the snow, and maple sugar! Did you know that sugaring off and sugar shacks are typically a Quebec tradition ?  That is because maple trees grow better because of our weather conditions.  I am always excited to go to a sugar shack in the springtime – do you ?

Let’s build our own sugar shack together! Gather you materials and let’s start!

MATERIALS

• 1 small brown paper bag
• newspaper or store circulars
• wooden coffee stir sticks
• 1 piece of Kleenex or tissue paper
• 1 colored piece of construction paper (you pick the color)
• glue, scissors, paintbrush and a stapler

STEP 1

•Fill the brown paper bag with the newspaper (or store circulars)
•Fold the open ends of the bag over and use the stapler to close it

STEP 2

•Glue the wooden coffee stir sticks onto your sugar shack to look like wooden boards

STEP 3

•Cut the pieces of the construction paper to decorate your sugar shack:  make a roof, windows, a chimney and a door!

STEP 4

•Gather all the pieces to put on your cute little sugar shack…
•You can do like I did and draw details, like squares, on the windows and a doorhandle on the front door.

TA-DA !!!

Here’s my sugar shack!
Did you see ?  I added some smoke coming from the chimney!
Can you smell the maple water boiling ?

Yummm !  Pancakes with maple syrup!  These are, by far, my favorite breakfast.  Mornings always feel special when they start with pancakes.  At the sugar shack, pancakes are served as a dessert – and I always add a lot of maple syrup!

INGREDIENTS

•2 eggs
•1/2 cup of milk
•1 teaspoon of sugar
•1/2 cup of flour
•1 teaspoon of baking power
•1 pinch of salt
•2 teaspoons of melted butter
•butter for pan
•maple syrup

STEP 1

•  In a bowl, mix the melted butter, eggs, sugar, milk, flour, salt and the baking powder.  Mix well.

STEP 2

• You will need a pan to cook the pancakes in
• Once the pan is hot, put a little bit of butter and then, with a ladle, add some pancake batter.

STEP 3

•Cook your pancakes the way you like them
•Some people like little pancakes, some people like big pancakes
•You can make them golden or very light in color.

STEP 4

It’s ready!  Now you can add some yummy maple syrup and you will feel like you are at the sugar shack!

YUMMM !

It smells like a sugar shack here.  Can you, at home, smell the yummy odours of the sugaring off season ?
